Former Chelsea boss has had two meetings with top French team and could be appointed this summer
Foot Mercato are tonight reporting that Graham Potter is one of the candidates to take over as OGC Nice boss next season.
The French side are backed by British chemical giants INEOS, and have so far used their big budget pretty wastefully. They’re 10th in Ligue 1 and were knocked out of the Europa Conference League by Basel, and now are taking stock of their moves ahead of the summer..
INEOS are owned by Sim Jim Ratcliffe, Britain’s wealthiest man, and his nationality has translated to some interesting moves from the club – and the appointment of Potter would be the most interesting yet.
Potter has apparently already had two meetings with the club’s executives about a potential appointment this summer. After success in Sweden, France will probably feel just like home. It would also allow the former Chelsea boss to step away from the wreckage of a reputation damaging season on the home front.
Potter is apparently “tempted”, but may sit tight and see what other offers come around. All of those teams with caretakers – from Everton to Crystal Palace to Tottenham and beyond – will be looking for new managers in the summer, as will the teams they eventually poach a coach from.
So we will likely see a few coaches biding their time and seeing what comes up. As Potter learned the hard way at Chelsea, rushing into things isn’t always the best idea.
